What Is Fuel Consumption?

Fuel Consumption measures the fuel used per unit of distance travelled — commonly expressed as litres per 100km — separating operational efficiency from fuel price. A vehicle's Fuel Cost Per Kilometre can rise purely from price movements, but rising consumption specifically points to a mechanical or behavioural cause.

Formula

Fuel Consumption = Litres Consumed ÷ Distance Travelled (×100 for L/100km)

Use accurate fuelling records tied to odometer readings — self-reported or estimated distances produce a misleading consumption figure.
